JNPT Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Stands operational
JNPT so far has allotted 20 plots in its SEZ, which includes 19 MSME units and 1 Free TradeWarehousing Zone (FTWZ) to the Co-developer. 5 units amongst these allottees have started their construction activities and out of the 2 units in JNPT SEZ namely, M/s OWS LLP and M/s Krish Food Industry (India) have completed their first phase of operational activity and are declared operational units by Development Commissioner, SEEPZ, SEZ with effect from 24th June 2020.

The proposed Special Economic Zone at Jawaharlal Nehru Port is the first-of-its-kind at a major port complex in the country, and being developed on 277.38 hectares of land along the Panvel - Uran road connecting the cargo terminals to state highways.

JNPT SEZ have plot holders in number of industries as Marine foods, Manufacturing, Perfume Manufacturing, Food processing, Engineering, Pharma manufacturing, Seals manufacturing, Automobile spares, Box manufacturing, Engineering parts, FTWZ.
India was one of the first in Asia to recognize the effectiveness of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) model in promoting exports, with Asia's first EPZ set up in Kandla in 1965. With a view to overcome the shortcomings experienced on account of the multiplicity of controls and clearances.
JNPT SEZ has a geo-centric advantage of being well-connected locally and
globally. It has the location advantage of being in close proximity to Mumbai,
the economic capital of India. Being less than 5 km away from the JNPT Port,
this industrial zone has direct access to global markets via JNPT's Container
Terminals. Once ready, the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport is just
15 km away.
The SEZ is directly connected to state and national highways. Road
transportation will be facilitated further with the upgradation of state and
national highways to 6-8 lane roads and with the upcoming Sewri - Nhava road
connecting JNPT SEZ area to Eastern Mumbai. JNPT is on the Western Dedicated
Freight Corridor, offering ready access to markets in the north.

JNPT has Special Planning Authority status in the SEZ area
In order to achieve the stated aim of SEZs, the government. has provided multiple incentives to unitholders and co-developers for SEZ operations.
Duty free import/domestic procurement of goods for development, operation and maintenance of SEZ units
Stamp duty exemption
External commercial borrowing by SEZ units up to US $ 500 million in a year without any maturity restriction through recognised banking channels.
Zero-rated GST on procurement of goods and services
100% Income Tax exemption on export income for SEZ units under section 10AA of the Income Tax Act (Sunset clause will involve from 31-03-2020) for first 5 years, 50% for next 5 years thereafter and 50% of the ploughed back export profit for the next 5 years (MAT is applicable)
Note: The key requirement for unitholders in the SEZ is to be "Net Foreign Exchange" positive when measured cumulatively over the 5 year period. Further, as per current rules, the income tax exemptions are available for all units that start operations before 30-March 2020.
