Shri Gopal Krishna, IAS, Secretary (Shipping) chaired the FY 2017-18 performance announcement meeting at JNPTJNPT added yet another feather to its cap by clocking the highest volume of cargo handled with 4.83 million TEUs for the year ended March 31, 2018. The record performance comes on the back of 4.5 million TEUs handled in the previous financial year. It has registered 7.4% growth in container cargo volume during this financial year. JNPT has successfully handled the deepest vessel till dateJNPT, India’s premier container port has successfully handled the deepest vessel of draft 15.45 meters. JNPT has undertaken capital dredging project for deepening and widening of main harbour channel and JNPort channel (Phase ll) from 14 meters to 15 meters. The key benefits of the capital dredging project include handling bigger size vessels up to draft of 15 meters by optimally using tidal window, that will enable higher container traffic, reduce ocean freight cost per TEU and faster turnaround of larger vessels & utilization of capacity. |
